The precinct meeting
on February 19th is where precinct officers, district officers and delegates
to the county and state conventions are elected. Since it is a presidential election year, this is also where you get to cast your ballot for the Presidential candidate that you would like to represent the Democratic Party.
It is at the Party
conventions in May that the basic values and platform of the Party are
debated and adopted. Precinct and district chairs are also elected at this
meeting, which provides an opportunity to get directly involved in strengthening
the party, or voting for those who will do this work. You will also
have the opportunity to join a committee to work on Party platform
and resolutions on local, state and national issues.
You
can be an officer and/or a delegate too! All you have to do is bring
a friend or two along with you to the meeting (to stack the vote
;-)) and let your current precinct officers know that you are interested.
In many cases, there are empty seats and the current officers will
be happy to have an energetic person such as yourself involved at
this level!
You
must be a registered Democrat and a registered voter in order to vote at your precinct meeting,
but if you are not currently registered, you will be able to sign
up and register to vote at the meeting. If you have any questions
about what to expect, feel free to contact Rachel.
