Impeachment Kit for Kucinich Nov. 6 Action

Filed under: Dennis Kucinich,Impeach,National Politics — BobSchacht @ 8:15 pm

The impeachment movement is about to get a majoImpeach Cheney logor jolt!

First, a little review:
On Tue, 23 Oct 2007, the national impeachment committee of Progressive Democrats of America announced that

On Tuesday, October 23rd, in a nationwide phone call to impeach organizers presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich announced he will go before the U.S. House of Representatives on a point of personal privilege to move the impeachment of Dick Cheney.

Impeachment leader David Swanson then announced when this would take place:

Impeachment is coming to House floor on November 6th. Act now!

Congressman Dennis Kucinich, whose bill to impeach Cheney has 22 sponsors, will introduce a resolution on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on November 6.

November 6th??? November 6th??? Isn’t that the date in even-numbered years that we hold elections? Hmmm.

Back to Swanson:

Another congress member will move to table (kill) the resolution. The vote on the tabling will come on the 6th, 7th, or 8th. We need you to ask your representative to vote No on tabling, Yes on giving impeachment a chance. Those who vote Yes to table cannot use the excuse that “We don’t have the votes,” since others will at that same instant with exactly the same exertion be voting No. Please contact Congress and the media right away!

Kucinich explains this week’s vote:

So… from DailyKos, and impeachment activist David Swanson, and me, blended together, here’s your

For those who are onboard, here is a 5 step action checklist to do until Nov. 6th when Kucinich will bring H.Res.333 for the impeachment of Cheney to the House Floor. Congress is watching for the public reaction to this, so this is the time to use everything we’ve got to make sure they will not know what hit them.

Step 1. Ask your Congress Member to support impeachment proceedings against Cheney. Call your congressperson! If you are shy you can call after hours and leave a message, telling them: “Support the impeachment of Dick Cheney, vote no on the motion to “table” House Resolution 333. Do the right thing, Neil,” (or whatever.)

Urge your congressperson to “support impeachment of Dick Cheney regarding House Resolution 333. Urge NO on TABLING MOTION.”
You know who they are.

Abercrombie’s numbers are
Phone: (202) 225-2726 in Washington, D.C., and
Phone: (808) 541-2570 at his Main District Office here in Honolulu

If you live in Mazie’s district and don’t know her numbers, you can call her in D.C. this way:

Here are toll free numbers to the capitol switchboard, a nice lady answers and puts you through to the office:

And while you’re at it, Ask members of the House Judiciary Committee and Speaker Nancy Pelosi to support this initiative.

Step 2. Email them.

I recommend that you register at http://www.congress.org. Once you register (free), this service makes it easy for you to send email to any of your representatives.

. . . Say your own thing or lift some talking points from here or here.

Ask them to get back to you, and ask them when they will possibly available for a visit (even if you can’t, maybe someone else can. anyway, it scares them because DEEP DOWN THEY ARE AFRAID OF CONSTITUENTS, and would rather be doing almost anything but listening to someone tell them what a low-down, weasely constitutional-duty-avoider they are.)

And while you’re at it, Print out postcards to mail to Congress Members. Swanson has three versions in three formats contributed by three people. Use a simple PDF, or a simple Word doc, or a two-sided card: front jpg, back jpg. Postcards are better than letters because they don’t have to go through the anthrax-screening procedures in the Washington, D.C. post office.

Step 3. Contact the media.
Write at least 2 e-mails on this easy link to newspapers, do your hometown or just pick a couple. Tell them they are the media and they are responsible for covering anything as important as an official action related to impeachment, as Kucinich’s action on Nov. 6th will be. Try our major city dailies. Call a newsroom if you like, get chummy with a reporter, and tell him/her about it. Lots of times these guys really aren’t aware that something is going on, because usually they are overworked. http://www.democrats.org/…

Here is a great TV newsroom contacts list from Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting http://www.fair.org/…

Step 4. Print out this flyer by Progressive Democrats of America and put them on community bulletin boards, on coffee shop tables, on the seats in the subways, in your apartment building announcements, anywhere you can think.

A high resolution jpeg is here (this is a very large file)

Or design your own with the following info:

Next, if you are really cheesed about all this, and happen to be in Washington DC, consider Step 5– and carefully consider the consequences!

Step 5. …most time consuming, Ralph Lopez suggests that we get in their faces. Every congressman at http://www.house.gov/ has a “congressional schedules” link on the left, which tells you when they will be in Transportation Committee of whatever, so you can follow him around with a sign saying “impeach.” Holler, sit in their offices, get arrested if you have a little time, just make sure you are shouting “impeach! Do your duty congressman !” as loud as you can as you are dragged away so any cameras present will pick it up.

In addition, Swanson suggests these additional actions:

[Step 6] Rep. Dennis Kucinich wants to put the name of everyone who supports Dick Cheney’s impeachment in the Congressional Record! The Congressional Record is the official record of the proceedings and debates of the United States Congress. It is published daily when Congress is in session and is fully searchable. Every day that Congress is in session, Rep. Kucinich will submit 5 single-spaced pages of names with states, which is the daily limit under House rules. To be included, all you need to do is submit this petition.

Here’s a chance to get your name into the Congressional Record!

[Step 7] Contact the pollsters.
The idea here is that not enough pollsters are asking questions about impeachment.

Live call-in Monday

Dennis Kucinich will talk about the impeachment of Dick Cheney and
why it’s critical to our democracy. He will also tell us what we
need to do before he takes action on our behalf. He is taking bold
action on behalf of the majority of Americans who long for the return
of the American democracy and our troops who are still stuck in Iraq
as a occupying army in the middle of a civil war, which may soon turn
in to an attack on Iran if Cheney isn’t stopped.

Have you noticed that there is almost no conversation about Iraq on
the news? Do you know why? The time has come to hold Dick Cheney
and George Bush accountable for their lies and the destruction of
Iraq and the death of what is believed to be nearly a million Iraqi
civilians. It’s time to reign them in and reestablish democracy in
our country.

Dennis will host a live, nationwide conference call tomorrow Monday,
November 5th, beginning at about 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time) to announce
what will be happening in the House of Representatives this week
regarding the Cheney impeachment resolution. He will ask for our
help and I hope that all of us take the time to follow through and
make the calls necessary to engage the leadership and our representatives.

The call-in number is (641) 715-3300.
When the operator asks for an access code, key in 324341#.
The call is open to all interested citizens.

Please take the time to listen in!

I won’t be able to listen in, because I’ll be at work. But you can call in, and maybe give us a report on the PDH blogspot right here! Anyone can submit a comment at the end of this post.

Now is a good time to do something.
