Due to scheduling conflicts, I could not join the PDH group when they met with Representative Hirono and Representative Abercrombie's Chief of Staff, Amy Asselbaye, earlier this year. I did, however, speak to both of them individually on impeachment proceedings during meetings on another matter. Here is the essece of what I was able to ascertain from these meetings:

The Republican members of the House will vote as a block to support Bush under any circumstances, with few defections. Most of the moderate Republicans of years past, who would have conceivably joined the Democratic members, have either been replaced by conservatives or lost their seats in the last congressional elections. What we are dealing with is a "jihad." Bush is treated as a messianic figure by the Republican church members (Yes, the Republicans are no longer a party but a religious organization). We have to work to increase the numbers of Democrats in the House before anything substantial can be accomplished. Does anyone here know the procedures for criminal prosecution of the President, Vice-President, Attorney General, etc, after their terms of office have ended?
